Hi all, and welcome! Today, we’re taking a close look at Sour Tsunami from USA Hemp Co.
About the strain: According to WikiLeaf, Sour Tsunami is cross between Sour Diesel, NYC Diesel, and a local California variety called Ferrari. It’s a hybrid (60% Sativa and 40% Indica).
Product: 2 Grams of Sour Tsunami Flower
Date Ordered: May 30, 2018
Date Delivered: June 4, 2018
Sender Name: The sender’s name on the package is “USA HEMP CO”, which doesn’t bother me, but might not be ok for some who want more discrete shipping.
The packaging wasn’t very substantial, but since the product is in a glass jar, there was no chance of it getting crushed.
Testing Grade 0/10
Safety testing: No (-5)
Potency Testing: No (-3)
Terpene Analysis: No (-2)
No documentation came with the flower, and I couldn’t find anything on their website.
They do say that the flower is “organic” (for what that’s worth).
First Smell 2/10
I never actually made a review like this one for Kanapinis, but if I did, I imagine the smell score would have been about the same.
When I opened the jar, all I could smell was a strong dried grass scent. I couldn’t detect anything else. Even really getting my nose in there and inhaling deeply. Nothing but grass.
After the initial smell test, I took out about 1/3 gram of bud, put it in the palm of my hand, and ground it up with my fingers. I cupped my hand and brought it up to my nose. Breathed in deeply. Maybe something? But mostly still grass/ earth.
I know it’s kind of hard to believe, because just look at the pictures, right?
It makes me wonder if they water cured it to purposefully remove the smell. Either that, or the worst cure job ever.
Bud Quality 8/10
The trim job is very minimal/ rough. But even so, the quality of the buds is good.
They are firm/ dense, mature, and very resinous.
Vaping Taste 5/10
Method of consuming: Vaporization
Vaporizer temperature: 370 degrees F
The initial taste of Sour Tsunami was exactly what I imagined it would be after the smell test. But the surprising part was that it was actually not a bad taste. It wasn’t super tasty like some other strains, but it was definitely not bad.
It’s mostly earthy/ grassy, but there’s a really subtile hint of mint. And each bowl lasts for quite a while too.
The relaxing/ anti-anxiety feeling of CBD is definitely there, but I’m not sure about the terpenes. I certainly can’t really taste any.
Overall Value 5/10
Overall, I think this product has a lot of potential. Mostly because they grow their own hemp, so they have the ability to improve the curing process and make it better.
I also really like how the product is presented and packaged. But when I open a container of Sour Tsunami, I expect to smell Sour Tsunami. Not grass.
